Overview
The PLAYER-Cs Framework is an integrated pedagogical model designed to support holistic learning and development in preschool and kindergarten classrooms. It combines six interconnected components—Play, Learn, Apply, Evaluate & Reflect, Collaboration, and Critical Thinking—to create meaningful, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
Rather than viewing learning as a sequence of isolated lessons, PLAYER-Cs emphasizes learning as an ongoing process in which children actively explore, construct knowledge, apply new understanding, reflect on their experiences, collaborate with others, and develop higher-order thinking skills. Each component complements the others, creating a continuous cycle that supports children's cognitive, language, social, emotional, and physical development.
The framework is intended to help teachers move beyond teacher-directed instruction by adopting a child-centered approach where children actively participate in learning while teachers facilitate, scaffold, and guide the learning process.
Why was PLAYER-Cs developed?
Research in early childhood education consistently demonstrates that young children learn best when they are actively engaged in meaningful experiences. Play, exploration, social interaction, and reflection are fundamental to children's development. At the same time, today's children need opportunities to develop communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking—skills that are increasingly important for lifelong learning and participation in society.
PLAYER-Cs was developed to integrate these evidence-based practices into one coherent framework that teachers can easily implement in daily classroom practice. By connecting play with intentional teaching, collaboration, reflection, and critical thinking, the framework helps teachers create learning environments that are joyful, purposeful, and responsive to children's developmental needs.
