Introduction: What is Playful Learning?
Playful Learning is an educational approach that combines the joy and spontaneity of play with intentional teaching and meaningful learning goals. It recognizes that young children learn best when they are actively engaged, curious, and emotionally connected to their learning experiences.
Unlike free play, where children determine their own activities without specific learning objectives, Playful Learning involves thoughtful planning by teachers. The teacher designs environments, materials, and experiences that encourage exploration while supporting curriculum goals. Children remain active participants who investigate, ask questions, experiment, and discover knowledge through meaningful interactions.
Playful Learning does not mean "learning while having fun." Instead, it means learning because children are deeply engaged in playful experiences that encourage exploration, creativity, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving.
Within the PLAYER-Cs Framework, Playful Learning provides the foundation for the Play and Learn stages while naturally supporting Apply, Collaboration, and Critical Thinking.
